Medicines prescribed for COVID-like symptoms mainly try to provide relief from fever, cough, and shortness of breath. People have been asking me what the doctor prescribed and if there even were any drugs that can help with the symptoms. The answer is yes, go pharmaceuticals, there are definitely medications out there to help relieve some of the symptoms. These help to manage the symptoms while I stay quarantined and try to feel better.
Please only refer to official sources such as the CDC or your own doctor for health and medication-related questions. This article has been published only as a personal blog, nothing more.
All my doctor’s appointments throughout this illness have been virtual. I have not had any in-person appointments.
Since I have been getting so many questions about what treatment looks like I will share the medications prescribed or recommended to me for my symptoms by my doctor, but obviously, you should only listen to YOUR doctor in case you need any treatment yourself.
For fever and pain
Believe TYLENOL is available over the counter. Honestly, these medications were picked up by my friend Emily as I was very sick. She may have gotten this bottle of Acetaminophen just over the counter. I remember the doctor did recommend them to me at our virtual appointment, I am not sure if he also wrote a script for it or not.
For sinus pressure and congestion
For cough
For trouble breathing
Albuterol may cause increased heart rate and tremors as a side effect as seen in the Instagram post/video below. This is from last week. I tried to remain calm and breathe deeply when this happened. I talked to the doctor about it later and he said it was a common side effect. Please only refer to official sources like CDC or your primary care doctor for questions about your health. #inhalers
I also drank lots of Gatorade, orange juice, water, and tea. I ate chicken soups.
Lastly, the doctor also prescribed azithromycin, an antibiotic to help with worsened symptoms like sore throat during the second week of illness. Apparently, besides medicines prescribed for COVID-like symptoms, prescribing an antibiotic to COVID patients is also quite common as bacterial infections might occur on top of everything else.
I have been documenting how the illness has progressed or changed in my blog:
Week 1
Week 2
