Recovering from COVID-like symptoms

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready…

Friends and family, I have been sick with COVID-like symptoms, but hopefully recovering, as we speak.

First things first: Do not stress

This thing could happen to you, too.

Do not stress or worry. Stress is not good for your immune system.

If you get sick you need to be strong and conserve energy and be strategic about how you spend your energy.

I ran two miles last Tuesday and on inhaler by Friday. Fever started Wednesday. So.. just be careful – stay in stay safe. My 7 days will be this Wednesday. Stay fit stay calm.

There are meds to help with symptoms but your body and the lack of other problems will be critical. Start jogging if you can. Exercise helps the immune system.

What the doctor said

The doctor said my symptoms line up with COVID-19. Due to my age (29) and previous lack of health problems, and because I am not a health care worker there will be no testing for me.

But he sent prescriptions for the symptoms and my friend Emily picked them up along with all this๐Ÿ‘‡ and left at my door.

COVID-like Symptoms

My recovery is non-linear and the following symptoms have been present:

  • Low fever
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pressure
  • Nasal congestion
  • Sore throat
  • Weakness
  • Aches and pains
  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Runny nose
  • Tiredness – which makes remembering everything difficult so I might have to edit or add to this post later
  • Anxiety – lots of this makes me want to do something that helps me remain calm, like writing, hence this post

Some of these symptoms are a lot scarier than others, like the chest pressure. Saturday night I called the emergency department but they basically could not give a shit.

The emergency department is overwhelmed by older people and people with more complications. As much as that is terrible that so many are suffering so much more, it still sucks.

Self-isolating

Guys, they won’t even give me a test, let alone care for me in the hospital. I have to recover while self-isolating. So don’t tell me to go to the hospital. I know to call for help if I need it.

I live alone with no family in this area. No one can physically be here to help me if symptoms worsen. I have to do it all myself while being sick.

That is mentally very taxing.

So when people send worried messages, their anxiety just feeds mine. I need calming messages, not anxiety-ridden texts and calls.

Forget social, learn survival

I know people are well-meaning but COVID is all about learning survival. Forget social, and start learning how to survive.

On your own.

Save your breaths, your oxygen, energy, and money. Life is so uncertain right now, but focusing energy on the right things helps. Focus. Budget. Strategize. Spend as needed only.

Thank you for your help

Having said that, I do appreciate your well-wishes and supportive messages.

My brother and Emily have been keeping tabs on my health by phone/text. My coworkers, clients, friends, and family are sending their thoughts.

I have support like Emily to help me with getting me meds, Gatorade, which is honestly the biggest life-saver right now. She just dropped off some food, too, on my porch. Gosh, this woman doesn’t leave me alone. In a good way!

The craziest shit

Also, maybe you won’t get COVID. As my friend Carolyn pointed out, the craziest shit happens to me, always.

Oindree, you do have the craziest shit happen to you, I remember when you told me while taking off, your plane hit a bird and had to land (true story, Frankfurt airport, lots of fire trucks)ย

Or when we got lost riding the bus to your parents’ place to have dinner the first time lol (was I supposed to know the direction to my parent’s place?)ย

Or when you almost choked on an orange when we visited Morgan’s house (I did choke and had to take out the orange piece out of my throat myself)

And then Carolyn went on to say, “Remember when Aishwarya kissed someone in a movie and Mija cried, I can’t even remember the dude.”

Watch that dude below. It really helps to take your mind off of negative things while dealing with COVID-like symptoms.

How did they smear the body oil, dirt and bronzer so perfectly in his muscles? — Mija

How are you dealing with your COVID-like symptoms? What would help?
