When you feel hurt, it can be easy to keep feeling hurt. That is, continue to feel hurt. However, that does not help.

Let your feelings be known when you feel hurt

If a person or situation is involved in making you feel how you feel, it might be a good idea to let them know. That way, you have voiced your feelings and shared. How you feel is already happening so there is no point in disregarding that feeling or pretending that it is not there.

Acknowledging a negative thing can be difficult for very positive people such as myself. However, it has to be done.

Earlier in life, I did not always communicate how someone was hurting me but now I cannot afford to do that anymore. This is because of the next step in what to do when you feel hurt.

Switch to taking care of yourself when you feel hurt

Although it is important to communicate to that person that they hurt you, after that, it is essential to switch gears and shift focus back to yourself. You are the one that is hurt, not them. So the consequences will lie with you, not them. If YOU don’t do something about making yourself feel better, it will only get worse.

Focusing on taking action to make yourself feel better is, therefore, the entire goal from then on and forward. Waiting on anyone to help you or anything to happen won’t help at all. Only you truly know how you feel and there is no one better to help you than yourself.

After acknowledging that I am hurt, the next duty is to take care of myself. Instead of actively being hurt and feeling hurt and spiraling more out of control, the switch to taking care of myself must happen. Bullshit has happened and now the focus must come back to me.

Whether it is to start exercising or meditating or putting your phone away – do whatever needs to happen to make you feel better. Rest assured that nothing else matters more. There is truly nothing going on anywhere that would matter more.

You are the superhero you were waiting for

Therefore, you must make your own plans and execute them. You must completely reorganize your priorities and expectations. It takes work to make someone feel better.

I am putting in work into me is the main thing. I am proud of my work and I am worth the work that went into saving myself. Once this is internalized, I think it will be easier to disallow someone or something to make you feel this bad in the first place, again.

You put in the work as your own superhero to make things right. You don’t want all that effort to be wasted by allowing someone to mess with you again.
